YOUTHFUL ACADEMY SUFFER AT THE FELL.

NEPL Sunday First Div: 30 June 2024: SNCC Academy v Gateshead Fell (a)     40/40.

SNCC Academy 74ao (30o) George McConnell 7, Joe Dresser 11, Aaditya Bethanabatla 18, Jen McDowell 7*: Luke Angus 2-9, Angus McCloy 1-27, Jonty Davies 1-15, Matthew Carrick 4-12, Abisheck Mathew 0-5, Charlie Franklin 2-3.

Gateshead Fell 80-2 (12.3o) Pravan Kalyan 26*, Raju Kakarlapudi 15, Charlie Gray 8, Abishek Mathew 16*: Joe Dresser 0-23, George McConnell 1-24, Jacques Graham 1-19, Archit Upadhye 0-12.

Gateshead Fell won by 8 wickets- 23 points, SNCC Academy 6.

With Ben away on 1^st X1 Banks Salver 100 duty, Jen had a task as Captain as only 7 of the team were available at start time so batting was the only option. George McConnell & Will Carr faced the right arm seam of Angus & McCloy.

Misfortune in over 4 as the sound of Will Carr's (1) bat hitting the ground gave the umpire cause to uphold the lone appeal for a catch by the w/k. Joe Dresser at 3 batted positively taking 7 off the 6^th over but in the next George (7) missed a full toss & was lbw to Angus, 22-2.

28-3 in the 9^th as Joe (11) chipped Angus to mid on. Aaditya Bethanabatla joined Rory Cartmell & the pair advanced the score, Adi hitting a maximum in over 12 & a 3 in the next but at 42 in the 14^th Rory (5) drove the sla of the impressive Matthew Carrick to mid on. Adi drove through cover for 2x4 off Davies but one ball later found mid wicket, Adi (18, 28b, 2x4 1x6), a shame as he was going well, 5 down.

In the next Jacques Graham (6), aiming to leg, was bowled by Carrick, 57-6. Two maidens followed, then 3 runs but in the 26^th Archit Upadhye (3) went  back to Carrick & was bowled. Jen hit a boundary off Carrick but in the next Zac Henderson charged , missed & was bowled by Carrick, 68-8.

The end was nigh, Franklin persuaded Jacob McCord (0) to edge to first slip & in the same over David Cragg (2) was lbw :74 all out, Jen 7*, 10 overs remained unused.

The Fell seemed to be in a hurry ! Was there a distraction later that afternoon ?! Kalyan & Kakarlapudi faced the seam of Joe Dresser (rm) & George McConnell (lm).

Attacking strokes saw he total rise to 22 after 5 overs. In the 6^th Kalarlapudi (15, 29b 3x4) was bowled by George, Kalyan 3*. Joe's spell of 4 overs conceded 23 but he bowled nicely. George's 5 over spell likewise 1-24.

At 52 in the 11^th Gray (8) was bowled by Jacques in his second over. But Mathew 16* & Kalyan 26* saw the Fell home after 3 balls of the 13^th over. 15 extras included 9 wides & 4 no balls, things to work on.

So some good bits & only one dropped chance. The Academy remain 5^th in NEPL Sunday First Division on 108 points having played 8, one less than the majority of teams.

Onward to Sunday 7^th July; SNCC Academy v Sacriston (h) 40/40 a challenge to take on  the table topping team. We hope you can be thre to cheer them on.
