1864's won by 5 wickets - 20 points, Newton 7.

A little drizzle & a slightly damp wicket persuaded the 1864's to field. Lee & Jones faced the right arm seam of Varun Gudipati & Sam Lee, Sam on debut.10-1 in the 3rd over as Lee (6) chipped Varun to point where Jacques held the catch. 19-2 in the 6th when Taylor (0) played early & the ball looped back to bowler Sam.

A partnership of 62 between Jones & Scattergood ensued but at 81 in the 18th Jones (33, 53b, 6x4) was bowled by Jacques, beaten in the flight. 7 runs later Scattergood (38, 42b 8x4) was well held by Varun at deep mid wicket off Jacques. Another wicket for Jacques in over 24 as Jeffery (3) pushed to mid on where Sam took a comfortable catch, 95-5

Wilkie was batting positively & a four over spell from Zac had gone unrewarded but one run later Reddy (1) aiming to drive Tom's left arm over, skied & w/k Will Carr took the catch, 96-6.

Telfer & Wilkie continued, Simon West began with a maiden, then at 135 a mix up saw Telfer (11) run out as the expected single to backward square leg was refused. At the same score Pisapati (0) was lbw to West, full & straight, 8 down.

Wilkie & Goulding had batted well but in seeking to push on in over 38 both were run out. Wilkie (55, 33b, 2x4 1x6) & two balls later Goulding (15). 175 all out after 38 overs, seemingly  a par score in the conditions. An efficient display by a very young bowling attack, tidy fielding, 3 run outs achieved & only 2 chances not taken.

In reply, Jacob McCord & Belinda Wewalage faced the seam of Burdon Taylor & Wilkie. Having hit 2x4 Belinda advanced in the second over but mistimed to mid off, caught by Scattergood off Wilkie, 10-1.

Jacob was leaving well & hitting the bad ball through the offside & in partnership with Jan (19) the total had reached 59 in the 13th when a possible single to backward square leg was refused & a run out ensued.

Will Carr (6) perished at 76 in the 17th when, in playing  to leg, a leading edge off Reddy lobbed to cover. Jacob continued to drive straight & through the offside but at 99 in the 21st Jacques (11), seeming to play no shot, was bowled by Goulding.

Jack Patterson then supported Jacob well & the pair had put on 49 for the 5th wicket when Jack (19, 33b, 2x4) was lbw to Goulding's off spin, sweeping, 148-5 after 31 overs.

Jacob was closing in on a century & in over 33 both Varun (6*) & Jacob struck boundaries in Jeffery's only over & with 3 to win Jacob completed his century whipping off his pads to the square leg boundary. Jacob (102*, 109b, 15x4 3x6)  many through the offside, straight or square on the legside. A good, controlled innings, leaving well early on & driving with power down the ground.

A good win for the 1864's who remain in 5th place in Division 1. Onward to Sat 6th July SNCC 1864's v Haltwhistle (a) 1330 40/40. We hope you can be there to cheer them on.

Duncan.
