VP'S ENJOY PLEASANT CONDITIONS FOR THEIR AUTUMN GOLF OUTING AT NEWBIGGIN.
14th October 2024
13th Jul 2021
The sadness of Bill Graham's passing early on Saturday was marked by a minute's silence before the second semi-final as SN took on Lanchester at Denton Bank on Sunday 11th July. The sky above was clear, but the weather seemed to be coming up the valley.
SECOND SEMI FINAL.
SNCC 149-6 (20o) Michael Richardson 54, Adam Cragg 61*
Lanchester 147-7 (20o) Sean Tindale 4-17, Calum Fletcher 1-26, Oli McGee 1-24
SNCC won by 2 runs.
Asked to bat the SN innings was indebted to a third wicket partnership of 68 between Richo & Craggy, full of good placement & rapid running, taking the score from 26-2 to 96 -3. 100 runs in 15.3 overs, the later acceleration was supplied by Adam who finished 61*, reversing merrily. Lanchester bowled & fielded very well although Sean seemed mightily unlucky to be adjudged run out when obstructed. Oli strode out to face the last ball of the innings & slog swept for 6 to mid-wicket!
Rain delayed the restart, but a full 20 overs was deemed possible. A fired-up Sean removed both Lanchester openers but racing to 100 in only 12.3 overs & still only 4 wickets down with 9 to win & two overs to go, seemed on course for victory. But in the 19th Sean took two wickets & conceded only 4, 5 to win. The last, bowled by Calum, went dot, dot, wicket, an excellent diving catch by Jonny at third man & conceded only 3 . Bravo !!
FINAL: SNCC V BENWELL HILL
Benwell Hill 122-8 (20o) ( Jonny Wightman 1-36, Sean Tindale 1-17, Oli McGee 2-22, Calum Fletcher 1-22, Lee Crozier 3-24)
SNCC 123-3 (17.2o) (Rob Peyton 19, Michael Richardson 73*, Adam Cragg 15.)
SNCC won by 7 wickets.
Kyle Coetzer c Hewison b Wightman 4, 3rd ball of the first over was a good start. At 30 Sean had McCreath caught & another 4 wickets fell in quick succession to 49-6 as Oli & Lee struck. A partnership of 52 between Joseph Anderson & Max Williamson was broken by Rob Peyton's catch off Calum, 101-7 & the innings closed at 122-8. 7 catches taken- Hewi, Rob, Michael 2, Adam, Lee, James - all vital.
In reply 0-1, but 56-2, Rob 19 as Richo's sublime form continued. Another partnership with Adam of 62 was match defining, finishing 73*( 8x4, 1x6, 62b) as the Bulls got home in 17.2 overs.
Bill would have been very proud of us today !
The tournament win means SNCC are through to the T20 National Area finals day which is at home on Sunday 1st August. Details soon. Onward!
