BULLS WIN AT FELLING IN T20 BUT LOSE AT TYNEMOUTH IN THE LEAGUE.

Fri 7th June 2024: NEPL 2nd X1 T20 Group C: SNCC v Felling (a) 20/20

Felling 114-6 (20o): Liam Stamper 57, Tony Trotter 24*: Gavin Paton 2-23, Allan Davidson 2-13, Finlay Pearce 1-17, George Gray 1-14, Nathan Gough 3-30, Gregor Pearce 0-15.

SNCC 115-5 (15.2o): Nick Tomlinson 22, Alex Weetman 15, Nathan Gough 15, Ru Fletcher 14, Angus Southern 25*, Gavin Paton 9: Calum Wright 0-25, Max Lowery 1-11, Ellis Wales 1-43, Robbie Newman 1-16, Simon Wood 1-16.

SNCC won by 5 wickets - 6 points, Felling 0.

SN won the toss & asked the home side to bat on an afternoon that had seen showers. A 33 yard boundary on one side was difficult to defend.

Allan Davidson took two wickets in 3 overs bowling both Carroll (1) & Wright (7), Finlay Pearce & George Gray took over & Rowell (7) drove George to cover where Ru redeemed himself after a drop three balls earlier. George bowled his 4 overs nicely, around the wicket, without conceding a boundary.

Stamper was targeting the short boundary but he was caught by George at mid wicket off Gavin for 57. Tony Trotter 24* continued but Gavin bowled Wood (2) & Finlay bowled Lowery (6) such that the home side finished on 114-6 after 20 overs.

The Bulls reply saw useful contributions from the top 4: Nick (22), Alex (15) Nathan (15) & Ru (14). Angus, leaving exam cares behind him, stroked 25*, Gavin (9), assisted by 9 wides, saw the Bulls home after 15.2 overs, a comfortable win by 5 wickets.

NEPL Division 2: Sat 8th June 2024: SNCC v Tynemouth (a) w/l/d 105o.

SNCC 197-8 (52o) Ru Fletcher 20, Jan Ozmen 26, Nathan Gough 27, Alex Weetman 11, Ben Sidney-Wilmot 48*, Finlay Pearce 27* extras 29: George Stewart 1-20, L Hurst 1-38, Neil Bennett 3-31, Shamsur Oraikhil 1-17, Dan Thorburn 2-3.

Tynemouth 198-6 (51.5o) Dan Thorburn 25, Anthony Turner 30, Joel Hull-Denholm 47, Patrick Hallam 33, George Stewart 26: Gavin Paton 0-45, Allan Davidson 0-32, Finlay Pearce 0-16, Nathan Gough 2-27, George Gray 3-60, James Ruddick 1-13.

Tynemouth won by 4 wickets- 24 points, SNCC 6.

The Bulls were asked to bat on a windy day with signs of recent rain still visible. Angus Southern (3) was caught by Oraikhil at point in the 4th over off George Stewart. There followed a stand of 48 between Ru & Jan  until Ru (20) cut a short ball straight to point, 53-2 in the 14th.

Bennett's seam then accounted for three wickets as first Jan (26) was bowled in the 17th, James (4) was caught at slip by Smith in the 21st & Nathan (27) seemed unlucky to be adjudged lbw in the 27th,107-5.

Alex (11) carrying a hand injury, was bowled by Oraikhil in the 34th, 121-6. This became 131-8 as first George (2) & Gavin (0) fell in the 37th to Thorburn's medium pace.

A splendid partnership of 66 for the 9th wicket between Ben Sid & Finlay Pearce ensued & gave some respectability to the scorecard. Ben (48*, 84,3x4) driving down the ground & Finlay (27*, 41b, 4x4) prospering through the offside. The declaration came after 52 overs at 198-8, would the total be enough ?

The wind still blew as Thorburn & Turner faced Paton & Davidson with  Ben Sid keeping wicket. The opening partnership survived a catch off a no ball but at 63 in the 16th, Thorburn (25) was stumped by Ben Sid advancing to George Gray's first delivery. One over later Turner (30) was yorked by Nathan, 64-2.

Fielders believed Hull-Denholm edged behind soon after but the umpire did not discern an audible snick.  The third wicket partnership saw Hallam play & miss on several occasions but the total had risen to 133 in the 37th when Hallam (32) edged Nathan to w/k Ben. Another good spell from Nathan 2-27 in 12 overs including 3 maidens.

George Stewart (26) was caught by Ben Sid off George in the 44th,167-4 & two overs later Hull Denholm (47) was very well held at slip by Allan off George, 176-5. Lineham (0) fell at the same score, bowled by a James Ruddick yorker.

But Oraikhil (12*) & Smith (10*) saw the Mariners home by 4 wickets in the 52nd over. An over generous declaration perhaps, another 20 runs, a no ball wicket, a couple of dropped catches, an appeal not upheld, all fine margins on which games hinge.

Onward to Sat 15th June 2024: NEPL Division 2; SNCC v Whitburn (h) 105 overs 1200 start. We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.

Duncan.
