On a cool day with a very short leg side boundary towards the tennis courts, Tynedale were invited to bat. Scandle & Barber faced the seam of Gavin Paton & the perennial Simon West.
At 25 Barber (5) was lbw to West. 3 runs later Marrow (2) was caught by w/k Sam Ewart also off Simon, a good, pacy 5 over spell. A partnership between the experienced Scandle & Cant ensued, until at 78 Scandle skied off Ru & w/k Sam took the catch 4 yards from the stumps. At 81 Griffiths (1), aiming a big hit, was bowled by Lunn, 81-4, Cant 19*.
Pessara & Cant pushed on until at 98, Pessara (5) attacking, lofted George Gray to mid-off where Gavin took the catch. At 102 T Fletcher was caught behind off George. Sadiq then picked up two wickets at 103, bowling both Nevin (0) & Sunkireddy (0), the latter on the crease, 103-8, Cant 33*.
At 115 Cant, looking to accelerate, drove hard back to Sadiq. The ball rebounded of his foot; a single was called but Sadiq gathered & threw to the w/k, easily beating Riccalton's attempt to make his ground, 115-9.
Maximums to the short boundary & straight drives for 4 from Cant (61*) pushed the score to 140 in the 38th before Laidler (4) was bowled by George Gray. George continued his rich vein of form, 2.2-0-5-3 wickets.
In the total of 140 were 35 wides !!
Sam Ewart & Ru Fletcher faced the seam of Sunkireddy & Barber. At 41 Ru (14) top edged, high towards square leg & was caught by Griffiths off Sunkireddy. Angus joined Sam & the pair pushed on as 5 change bowlers were given an opportunity.
Sam (55, 47b, 4x4, 1x6), an innings full of intent, the 6 went over the longest square leg boundary & down the terrace, but at 114 he was caught at mid-wicket, mistiming a pull.
U 12 Will Carr, joined Angus & the pair batted nicely such that the winning runs came in the 21st over, Angus 29* (47b, 2x4), Will 10*, pulled his third ball for 4, (9b, 1x4): 33 wides in this total too !
Things to work on after a difficult Saturday for all the teams... we must continue!
