On a cold, dark night Ponteland won the toss & invited the Bulls to bat. 16 overs/side was agreed. Tris Meears-White & Aaditya Bethanabatla faced  the seam of Parker & off spin of Singh.

A strong start saw 40 scored in the first 4 overs with Tris pulling 2x6 & cutting merrily & Aaditya cover driving fluently, hitting three consecutive, cover driven boundaries in the second over from the spin of Singh. In the 5th over Aaditya (14, 3x4), driving, was caught at cover off Parker, a wicket maiden.

Ben Hush hit hard & ran well and Tris continued to take advantage of anything short of a length. At 80 in the 12th over Ben (16) was bowled by Wiles but Joe Dresser maintained the momentum with 19 runs from the last two overs.

The innings ended at 113-3, Tris 66* (7x4,2x6) & Joe 14* (1x4).

Ponteland took 14 from the first over as Will struggled to find a length but in the second Zach took two in two balls as Raw (10) edged behind for w/k Rory Cartmell to take the catch & number 3 Smith (0) was bowled.

38-2 after 6 overs then the sla of Jacques Graham & David Cragg slowed the rate & in the 10th David bowled Graves (23). Just singles off Jacques then David took two wickets as Chauhan (21) edged to w/k Rory Cartmell &  Gardner (0) was bowled.

Varun Gudipati & Joe Dresser continued & Joe took two wickets in his first over bowling both Lumb (0) & Parker (0). Varun then had Wiles (1) caught by Tris at point. Kalluri (6*) & Singh (8*) saw the innings out at 82-8 after 16 overs.

The young bowling attack all bowled well, with purpose & discipline, keeping Pont behind the rate & closing the game out maturely. Bravo!

On to round 2 !

Duncan.
