Shorn of 5 first X1 regulars the Bulls were grateful to call upon Will Alexander, Angus Southern, George Gray, Joe Dresser & Jan Ozmen. Benwell Hill chose to bat. Hanley & Williamson faced Tindale & Birtwisle.

6-1 after ball 9 as Hanley (6) was lbw to Birty, sweeping. Next ball Gardiner (0) skied to mid wicket for Oli to take the catch. 20-3 after 23 balls  when Williamson (2) swung Birty to deep mid wicket finding George's safe pair of hands. 3 balls later Anderson (1) edged Crozier to w/k Cragg, 22-4.

Some consolidation by Heather & Bell until at 38 after 60 balls Bell (10) was sent back but failed to beat Angus Southern's quick reactions & underarm throw from cover to w/k Cragg. Three balls later Halliday (4) attacking, was bowled by Birty. Archbold (2) skied George to Birty at short third man on ball 71, 7 down. 4 balls later Nadella (1) drove George to long off where Sol took a good catch, 47-8. Mussett (1) succumbed 4 balls later, bowled by a quicker one from Oli, 49-9.

Heather (36*,45b 5x4) drove straight & in company with Harding (9*) took the total to the close at 77-9. Birty 4-15, two wickets for George, one each for Lee & Oli.

A comfortable win ensued by 8 wickets after 60 balls. Birty & Sol put on 31 for the first wicket when Birty (18, 12b, 2x4) was bowled by Nadella. 53-2 after 53 balls when Adam (14,14b 1x4) sweeping was bowled by Mussett. Thereafter Sol 39* (32b 5x4) & Sean (2*) saw the Bulls home.

PRINGLE TOUR DE FORCE DOMINATES THE BANKS 100 SALVER FINAL.

Burnmoor 202-4 (100b) Ryan Pringle 138, Josh Coughlin 18, Stewart Poynter 19* Marcus Brown 16*: Sean Tindale 0-30, Simon Birtwisle 0-41, Oli McGee 1-37, Lee Crozier 1-24, George Gray 1-42, Joe Dresser 0-17.

SNCC 140-5 (100b) Simon Birtwisle 51, Adam Cragg 16, Sean Tindale 17, Oli McGee 20, Will Alexander 15*, Angus Southern 13*: Waqas Maqsood 0-8, Josh Coughlin 2-32, Dan Brown 0-14, Ryan Pringle 0-24, Graeme Bridge 2-19, Luke Husband 1-22, Noah Worthy 0-18.

Burnmoor won by 62 runs.

Seldom can a game have been so dominated by one innings but Ryan Pringle's 138 from only 49 balls, 12 of which were dots, containing 14x4 & 11x6  was an incredibly sustained display of powerful hitting to all parts, especially the shorter Pavilion side boundary. There were some very big sixes & 7 balls were lost !

Burnmoor chose to bat, Pringle & Worthy faced Tindale & Birtwisle. An almost sedate start as Tindale's first set went for 5 but in the next Birty conceded 20, 5x4 all to Pringle. 9 off Sean's next but then 16 off Oli's first.

Respite in Lee's first two sets & in the second Worthy (5) ramped to short fine leg where George took the catch, 59-1. George & Joe Dresser conceded 19 each, a baptism of fire ! A Pringle chance to deep cover in Joe's only set which Angus called for but could not quite hold on to the ball which was skied so very high.

112 after 14 sets as Coughlin hit 1x4 1x6 off Oli. It was not until the 14th set that the Bulls had another success when Coughlin (18) swung George to deep square leg for Oli to take the catch, 166-2. 3 balls (71) later at 170 Pringle's magnificent innings ended when he hit Oli to deep mid wicket for Sol to oblige.

Maqsood (0) attempted an optimistic  single first ball but was sent back & run out by George's return from cover. Poynter (19*) & Brown (16*) concluded the innings at 202-4; a significant challenge !

The Bulls lost Sol (1) bowled defending, to Coughlin at 7 in the second set. At 31 in the 5th set Adam (16,13b, 3x4) pulled Coughlin to deep square leg where Husband took the catch. Sean (17) struck 4x4 in 10 balls but then advanced & missed to be stumped by Craig in Bridge's first set which went for only 1.

Birty was defiant & with Oli took the core to 107 in set 14 when Oli (20, 2x4 1x6) went back to force Bridge, missed & was lbw, 4 down after 70 balls. With the game gone, the leg spin of Husband & Noah Worthy then bowled the last 5 sets. Birty (51, 38b, 7x4 1x6) had batted splendidly but at 120, ball 86, he was caught by Brown off Husband. Will Alexander (15*, 14b,1x4) & Angus Southern (13*, 9b, 2x4) were positive but the Bulls ended 62 runs short on 140-5 after 100 balls.

A pity a full strength side could not be assembled but on the day the power of Pringle prevailed.

No cup success for the 1's this season but 4 important league games to go to ensure a positive conclusion. Tynedale (h) Sat 31st Aug; Benwell Hill (h) Sun 1st Sept; Sunderland (a) Sat 7th Sept; Felling (h) Sat 14th Sept- all win/lose, 90 over matches starting at 1200.

We hope you can be there to cheer the team on.

Duncan.
