A sunny day, SN won the toss & chose to bat. Angus Southern & Jacob McCord faced the seam of McQueen & leg spin of Barton. At 17 in the 6th after a well-timed boundary off the back foot through cover, Angus (11) fell lbw to Barton missing a reverse.

Jacob struck 3x4 in the next over from McQueen, straight & behind square leg. 45 after 10 overs with Barton, in particular, difficult to score off on a slow wicket, bowling his 8 overs for 25.  Bowling changes ensued, the rate kept at 4/5 & Jacob reached 50 in the 20th over, at half way the score was 98-1, Tris 25*

First ball after drinks McCord (58, 72b, 7x4) advanced to Grosvenor's off spin missed & was stumped by Marriott. Ben Sid entered & injected some momentum, using his feet & running well, 145- 2 after 30 overs.

The last 10 overs saw the total rise by 84, 20 off the first two overs, Tris reached 50 in the 32nd but 2 overs later fell at 175 pushing a drive to be caught & bowled by McQueen, low on follow through, 61, (82b, 6x4) a measured knock. Enter George McConnell & with Ben the pair added 34 in 5 overs before Ben (50, 46b, 3x4) was bowled attempting to drive McQueen, a forthright innings.

Aaditya Bethanabatla joined George, chances were not taken & 26 runs were added in the last two overs as George peppered extra cover, long off & wide long on, Aadi over mid wicket, George finishing with a slog sweep for 6 to the mid wicket netting, (40*, 23b, 5x4 1x6), just the acceleration required.

Captain Logan Barton was unable to bat for Phili having played too many 1st X1 games so Dean Caris & Liam Marriott faced the seam of Joe Dresser & Aadesh Sahadevan. After a wide & a cut for 4, Caris was well held head high in the gully by Tris, 5-1 in over 1.

Marriott left the ball well but drove nicely through extra cover in the 3rd over. Four wickets then fell in the next 5 overs. Aadesh bowled McQueen (2), 12-2. Marriott again hit through cover this time off the back foot, but in the next JD Caris drove Aadesh hard towards mid off where George took a head high catch with aplomb, 22-3.

In the next over Sim (4) was run out by Ben Sid, a direct hit from behind second slip after the ball slipped away from w/k Belinda, 27-4. Aadesh then caught & bowled Grosvenor as an attempted pull lobbed back to him on follow through, 30-5 after 10 overs.

Jacques Graham & Gregor Pearce entered the attack & it was Gregor, in over 14, who bemused JD Caris (6) with a leg break, bowling him. In the next Jacques bowled Gaff (2). Two overs later Marriott (19), who had batted nicely, mistimed a pull to mid wicket where Gregor took a straightforward catch, Jacques the bowler. 3 balls later M Caris was bowled by Jacques wrapping up a comprehensive victory against a young side.

25 points leaves the Academy 3rd in the table with a game in hand. Onward to Sun 4th August SNCC v Chester-le-Street (a) 40/40, 1330 start, always a tough game. We hope you can be there to cheer them on.
