14th October 2024
22nd Jul 2019
Heavy rain just before the scheduled start at 13.30 caused a delay and for a while it looked as if there would be no play. But the weather slowly improved and a reduced over match of 30 overs per side got under way at 15.28.
The 1864s were put in to bat by Mitford and soon lost a wicket with the score on 10. James Hutton and Tristan M-W then put on 55 for the 2nd wicket before James was bowled for 32. Tristan and Steve Harper batted well together and put on 38 in 5 overs before Tristan was run out. The scoreboard was kept ticking over and the 1864s finished the 30 overs on 171 for 8.
Mitford started well and had reached 65 in the 16th over when Obaid Tauqir on debut clean bowled batsman 2 with his off spin - the batsman commenting that the ball turned a good yard!! Trudy Johnson then bowled a good spell including the valuable wicket of batsman 1 for 44. Mitford tried to keep in touch with the required run rate but fell short finishing on 156 for 5.
Victory to the 1864s by 15 runs.
Next game is on 27 July at Matfen against Stamfordham.
