Match abandoned-rain. 1864's 10 points, Haydon Bridge 8.

Haydon Bridge won the toss & chose to field. Will Carr & Jacob McCord faced the right arm seam of Kirkup & Martin. A positive start as Will cut & pulled boundaries in overs 1,2 & 3 & Jacob added one in over 2, so 22-0 after three but in the 4th Will (18,16b, 3x4) was bowled by Martin with one  that seemed to keep a little low.

Jacob struck 2x4 in over 7 off Kirkup & both he & Jan repeated the feat in over 10, Beckett's (lb) first. The total had reached 52 in the 11th when Jacob (25,33b,4x4) advanced to Kendrew's off spin & was bowled.

George McConnell joined Jan & after settling, he punished both Kendrew (4,2,1)  & Beckett (6,4) in overs 15 & 16, the score now at 76. The introduction of Pigg's spin brought a wicket in over 19 as George (28, 31b, 3x4,1x6), adventurously aiming to scoop, was bowled, 91-3.

There followed an excellent partnership of 83 between Simon West & Jan as Kendrew, Martin & Pigg continued. Simon driving down the ground, hitting 3x6 in two overs off the spinners in overs 27 & 28, 136-3. In over 32 bowled by Martin, every ball brought a run, proper cricket !

Kirkup returned but the rate stayed at 5's until, in over 37, Simon (56, 67b, 3x6) was caught at long on by Kirkup off Pigg, a splendid innings rolling back the years,173-4. In the same over Jan's (43, 76b, 3x4) bedrock knock, featuring square cutting, ended, caught by Kendrew, 176-5. In over 38 Joe Dresser struck 4, 2, 2 off Beckett & in the next Pigg was despatched for 6, 4 by Finlay.

In the last over by Beckett, Finlay attacking, (13,7b,1x4,1x6) was bowled & Joe (11,10b, 1x4) was caught at long on by Martin. Gregor 2*, Missy 1* at the close for a competitive 203-7.

The drizzle had started & it seemed that the home team were content for the weather to intervene as Finlay bowled 6 overs for 9 with the wicket of Kendrew (0, 13b), very well caught by w/k Will Carr sprinting towards square leg & diving to catch a top edged pull.

11-1 after 6 overs, 18-1 after 9,  Missy 3 overs for 8, David Cragg 3 overs for 10 & Joe Dresser one over for 1 as Gibson (23* 40b, 3x4) & Cunningham 3* (26b) waited for the drizzle to become heavier & at 28-1 after 13 overs the  players left the field.

A disappointing end to what would have been a competitive game with the 64's confident they could have defended their total of 203.

The 64's seem to be in 5th position with 62 points.

Onward to Sat 22nd June SNCC 1864's v Riding Mill (h) 40/40, we hope the rain stays away & that you can be there to cheer them on.

Duncan.
