Winning the toss, the 1864's chose to bat on what looked a nice wicket with a bit of moisture in it. A delightful opening partnership of 94 between Jacob McCord & Aaryan Wagh set up the innings. Driving down the ground, running well & hitting the bad balls on a surface inclined to keep low, Aaryan (37, 55b, 5x4 1x6) succumbed to a short ball that did just that & was bowled by Matty Edwards.

Woody (1) was palpably lbw at 109 & at 126 two wickets fell as Jan (5) hit to cover off the back foot & Will (0) was bowled by another that kept low, both from Alex Kirtley. One run later George (1) was also bowled by a decent delivery from Dan Morgan, 127-5.

Patrick joined Jacob & the pair advanced the score positively to 186 in the 38th before Patrick (34, 30b, 3x4 2x6) attacking, was bowled by Jake Edwards, a splendid partnership of 59.

Jacob completed a magnificent century soon afterwards & in company with Josephine (5*) closed the innings at 199-6. Jacob 104* (116b, 9x4,3x6) driving straight & fluently on a wicket where back foot shots were risky.

'Pitch it up & aim at the stumps' was the cry & the 1864's bowlers did just that. Josephine's excellent opening spell included 3 maidens & several near misses. Joe Dresser took the first two wickets, at 11 when C Kirtley (6) got one that nipped back & 1 run later, Parker (3) one that kept low, 12-2.

Mallaburn (21, 19b, 2x4,1x6) swung heartily but at 42 was yorked by Patrick. In the same over Hicken (0) was also bowled by Patrick with one that nipped back. Captain Kieran Mole resisted.

The next three wickets went to Varun Gudipati who was swinging it away. Patel (7) was caught & bowled, above his head, at 57, Joseph (0) succumbed to a very good catch by w/k Aaryan low to his right off an edged drive & J Edwards (0) was lbw, 57-7.

A partnership of 20 but at 77 in the 23rd over, Alex Kirtley (6) was caught by Josephine at mid-wicket off Patrick. At 82 Mole's resistance (26, 64b, 3x4) was ended by Patrick's slower ball yorker & at the same score Morgan (1) was caught by Patrick, high at cover, to give Josephine a deserved wicket, 5.1-3-3-1.

Patrick ended with 4-6 off 5 overs. An exemplary win & 7th place in Division 1. A challenge next to face 2nd in the table & undefeated Haydon Bridge on Sat 27th May (h) Belsay. We hope you can be there.
